Scientists Produced Transparent Wood
The tree is a cheap, renewable material used in almost every area. Here, researchers from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology managed to produce transparent woods using a new technique. In this way, transparent windows and solar cells can be produced from trees in the near future and this may be cheaper than silica-based glass.
Researchers in the association of Professor Lars Berglund, from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology, started by separating the lignin found in natural wood fibers chemically. Although the remaining material was a white material, it was still not transparent.
